Sometimes I wonder what it must have been like for the Jewish families back in the day.  I wonder how the young ones would sit around the fire and hear the elders telling the stories of their heritage and significant times in their history.  I wonder how the words painted pictures that evoked such a response to the young ones that they never lost sight of the wonders of God’s goodness to them in times past.  In this day and age we can use the media in ways to help carry that message across and as today we celebrate embracing the rest that God instituted for our benefit, I had the opportunity to share with my precious daughters some of the stories of our spiritual heritage and how God won through against all the odds.  The wonderful resource of YouTube made the story of David and Goliath alive for the girls with some humorous moments.

Thank God for His Word and the creative skills of these animators for making it possible to enjoy these stories again in a form that is accessible for many.  For those who face their own Goliaths may they be encouraged to know that the battle is the Lord’s and that victory is assured not by power or by might, but by the Spirit of the Lord of the Heavenly Armed Forces.  Enjoy.

On Saturday people from around the country came to celebrate the baptism of some precious new members to Stoke COG. It was a good time all round and also saw the Stoke COG Praise & Worship give a debut effort in singing this song. It is really encouraging to see the crew branch out and develop their repertoire to include songs like this. Indeed so comparatively innovative are the crew in mixing some of the best of contemporary Christian music whilst including some of the golden oldie hymns and songs from ‘home’ aka Jamaica that they are going from strength to strength with their efforts and are worth coming to enjoy. This is a beauty from Israel Houghton and something to get those hands clapping and feet stomping whilst sharing in the song’s sentiments. Also check the version of this song done in a New Year’s Live Celebration session.
