01 Introduction to Basic Beliefs

We believe in the authority of scriptures that highlight the supremacy of ultimate Deity. This Deity revealed in holy scriptures as God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son. We believe in the Holy Spirit who makes believers one and is the very presence of God as the promised Comforter after Jesus.

We believe that humanity was made in the image of God. Yet the entry of sin has left man depraved and unable to connect to God. This however was part of the plan of Salvation that saw Jesus Christ coming in the flesh and taking on the wrath of God on the cross of Calvary. His resurrection and gift of the Holy Spirit enables people to respond to the plan.

The authority of scripture and supremacy of God is seen in how the Father created humans and redeemed them back to Himself by Himself in His Son fulfilling His plan and ushering in the Holy Spirit to dwell in us allowing us to respond to God's grace

We believe that by grace through faith we are saved and a new covenant was introduced by Christ. This however does not negate from the values that Christ came to fulfil so we see Him and the early church endorse the key values of the Ten Commandments including the Seventh Day Sabbath. These are not legalistic injunctions, but as gifts from God for our benefit in relating to Him and others.

We believe that on ascending to heaven Jesus gave gifts to men for the building of the church to do works of service previously prepared. The church is seen in scriptures by many images such as the family, the body, the bride and the building. Jesus is coming back for His church and she is an expression of all He ever came to do.

We believe that Jesus left two key institutions that His Church follows as key expressions of union with Him. The first is the initial expression of union - full immersion baptism as part of the response to the plan of salvation. The second is the annual celebration of the Lord's Supper done in remembrance of His broken body and shed blood.
